Quilt Jacket

A couple weeks ago I had the opportunity

to give new life to an old quilt someone

bought. The finished projecct is absolutely

adorable. I especially love the added doilies

on the pockets and as an added collar.

 

 

I am always a little afraid to actually "cut" into

the old quilt. I want to cut is perfect and have the

finished jacket match up beautifully.

 



Becoming a Color Runner

On Labor Day my family and I had the most fun ever ......

as we became Color Runners with some great friends!

The Color Run is said to be the Happiest 5K on the planet!

We ran in Birmingham Al, at the Barber Motorsports Parkway.

We started the 5K pristine and clean....although drenched to the bone
in torrential rains that just wouldn't stop.

We finished looking like a rainbow threw up on us!

We were there extra early and it paid off as we lined up and were in the
first wave of runners to start.....not

only that, we were 10ft from the starting line!

(at the 2K mark we had been covered in red and blue)

The motorsport track is 5K and full of more hills than I usally run.
I was able to run the whole thing though with a 30 min time.

Unfortunately, my husband and son both have terrible chest colds.

At the last minute after getting soaked
they both decided not to run.
Their support of my running madness is so wonderful though!

After we finished we stopped to eat lunch and noticed

that it had stopped raining.......

 

so the girls and I had a little color celebration of our own

on the lawn where we ate.

Good thing the rain will wash it all away quickly :)

 

 

Most definitely a day to remember, and we

can't wait to do this again!

(yes I mean all of that literally)
5K Warrior Dash in Warrior Alabama.

Trip to the Beach

Everyone needs a trip to the beach sometime!

My daughter and some friends and I took a trip recently and had the best time ever.

We had some fun picture taking moments

Beautiful evenings on the beach

and perfect days...all total we took 688 pictures..

wow we were a little crazy!

Door Decoration

A couple months ago I decided to paint my front door Red

I absolutely love a red door.

My daughter then saw some vinyl door art that said Hello....

I got busy with the cricuit and vinyl

Now it is such a fun and inviting door.

Oh my how Long has it Been????

My goodness! Little did I know when I started blogging again

just how crazy busy and nuts my life would get.

Our South Dakota mission trip was fabulous!

I took a million pictures....many while giving a piggy back ride.

These kids just love to ride on your back. We did 4 VBS's a

day and just poured out lots of love to the kids.

They are so great, and a joy to be around.

The kids loved when I let them use my camera.

And talk about amazing sunsets....by the way

this was taken at almost 10pm. I loved all the

day light!!!!!!

I then went staight into working on VBS.....

But, I did find time to do a little sewing :)

Followed by a Youth Camp ........

Now I am about to help take photos for another

VBS this week.

It has been over 100 degrees since I don't know when and that

makes my marathon training challenging!  But I will do it

I have a challenging sewing project.....

I am cutting up an old quilt for someone and making

a jacket out of it......pictures will follow as I get it finished

and then on a totally different sewing path....I am making a

hammock, bug net and rain tarp for my hiking/backpacking

Hubby and Son :)

Lots going on....

But I will get my groove back and

BLOG more :) :)

Travel Pouches

Here is to hoping for lots of organization while traveling.

I can't wait to filll them and see what all they will hold.

I think I can pack one with knitting for the road,

one with shampoo and what-not

one for makeup

one small one in my purse

and that still leaves two more to fill

Ruffled Greatness.....maxi skirt

I have always been a girl that loved to wear skirts, and this year I have fallen in love with geat longer styled skirts. This great tutorial was the starting inspiration point for my new favorite skirt.

After playing around with the idea of what exactly I wanted my skirt to look like I got busy in my sewing room

The final result is so much fun!

I love how long and comfortable it is.

I wanted it to skim the ground...and that is does.

I recommend you give this one a try!

I plan to make many more.

In fact I have been working on a shorter, knee length

version that is staighter.

(it turned out great, although a little snugger in the hips than I like to wear, therefore I

am not modeling this one yet, I am still working on the exact angle of my design for a straight skirt.)

For this skirt the top of the ruffle is left unfinished, which I like better than the one I serged the top of. It cuts down on the bulk and looks a little more carefree and whimsical. Since knit won't unravel

I can do this without any worries, in fact I haven't been hemming the bottom edges either.

I few things I found out while working on this:

For this first skirt I made the waistband the exact measurement of my waist as suggested.....

I felt it ended up a little too loose. To fix it I just added some elastic pieced on the sides to bring it in just a tab bit. Not ideal, but it worked ( I serged the skirt, so taking it apart is a pain)

For my next ones I have cut the skirt body just like the tutorial, but the waistband pieces....

make them 2" shorter than waist measurement. It stretches easily to fit the skirt body without

making it look gathered and just gives a wonderfully slightly snug fit.

What is on the sewing machine now?????

A set of 6 different sized patchwork, travel, zipper pouches

with a few selvages thrown in there amonst the fabric....

selvages add so much fun and interest to a project

My family and I are getting ready to go on a mission trip in South Dakota

tomorrow, and these will be the perfect addition to my packing and staying

organinzed while living out of a duffle bag for 10 days.
